Fort Wayne held its annual Pride Festival July 27 and 28 at Headwaters Park. Pride Executive Director Nikki Fultz described, “It’s just a great, two-day event with a celebration of diversity. We’re obviously out there to celebrate the LGBTQ community, but we are also celebrating our straight allies and just showing Fort Wayne as much love as we can.” And that they did.
It was a beautiful day in Fort Wayne, in terms of the weather but also in terms of the amount of love, acceptance, respect, and support that was shared. It was so encouraging to see so many local organizations–from churches to LGBTQ+ organizations like GLSEN and PFLAG to area businesses who are open and accepting–supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
There were several organizations present representing Angola. First Congregation UCC had a booth to welcome the LGBTQ+ community to their church. The Golden Green Soap Company was there selling some beautiful bath and body products made especially for Pride in addition to some of their regular products from which CCC will receive 10 percent of their sales. And several members of CCC attended to take pride in their own identities and be supportive allies.
Pride certainly delivered on its commitment to bringing safe, fun events to the LGBTQ+ community and their straight allies.
